History is remembered through events. Wisdom is remembered through stories. Explore the writings of Colonel Fred Van Horn, where courage, service, sacrifice, and character come together to inspire thoughtful reflection across generations.
Colonel Fred Van Horn retired from the U.S. Army in 1995 after thirty-three years of service, and from Georgia Military College in 2016, where he served in senior leadership roles — including as Interim President — and was named Executive Vice President Emeritus. He is a combat veteran of Vietnam and a recipient of the Purple Heart. In Milledgeville, Georgia, he has continued a life of service through civic leadership. He was married to his late wife, Tomi, for fifty-three years, and is the father of one daughter and grandfather of two.
He began collecting the reflections and stories that became this book after a chance encounter on a street corner in Kyiv, Ukraine.
From personal reflections to timeless lessons, each book offers wisdom that resonates long after the final page.
A chance encounter in Kyiv became the beginning of an extraordinary journey of reflection. Drawing from decades of military service, leadership, family, and everyday encounters, Reflections of a Considered Man explores the values that define a meaningful life.
Each chapter offers thoughtful observations on courage, humility, responsibility, faith, friendship, and the quiet moments that often leave the deepest impressions. More than a memoir or collection of essays, it is an invitation to pause, reflect, and consider the principles that shape who we become.
